There are places that can buy ebooks in PDF or MS Word format, or those formats that are supported by the Amazon Kindle. Those ebooks can be read by the Kindle.

And there are some websites like these two, where you can find more than ten thousand free books for the Kindle. So no need to go to library to borrow them, you can actually own them:
